Whichever way you look at it, the popularity of UK air conditioning is going through the roof! What used to be something you’d only find in offices, is now becoming pretty common in homes all across the country. With the weather getting warmer and heatwaves occuring more often, more people are deciding they need air conditioning to stay cool.
It’s a trend we’ve seen in our factories and salesrooms too, with demand growing every year since 2008 – when only 0.5%1 of UK homes had air conditioning fitted. More recent numbers suggest it’s now closer to 3%, which still leaves 97% of the market untapped.

Hear from Jordan:
With one eye on the future, many forward-thinking installers are already getting ahead of the game. We spoke to Gas engineer, Jordan Breakspear from Prominent Gas about his journey to becoming a qualified air conditioning installer.
“The reason I chose to diversify into air conditioning was because it's a growing business. With the weather conditions, especially in the UK, being so unpredictable air conditioning is a great solution.”
Jordan recently installed a Bosch Climate 3000i into an at-home beauty clinic. Like many conservatories, this was a space that gets very hot in the summer and cold in the winter – so the air conditioning unit is perfect for the scenario, helping clients feel comfortable whilst having treatment.

Why don’t UK homes have air con?
Resisting the obvious jokes about the Great British weather, air con has just never been on the radar for most homeowners or housebuilders. Traditionally – we have a very mild climate, our homes are built to retain heat rather than keep cool, and there aren’t enough hot days to justify the cost of air conditioning. But things are changing. These days, we’re seeing more hot days than ever.
How to get started on your air conditioning journey:
“To be a fully qualified air conditioning installer, you need your F-Gas certification which takes five days to get. From there, you can do a one-day course down at the Worcester Bosch training academy to give you an introduction into the products they offer. It's such an eye-opening experience and gives you a really good start in taking on air conditioning installations.”
With an F-Gas qualification, you can confidently tackle a wide range of heating and cooling projects, from installing air conditioning units to servicing refrigeration systems.
