What are gas boilers?
First thing’s first, gas boilers are connected to the mains network. This means that the gas they use to heat your home and hot water comes directly through underground pipes, meaning zero hassle for you.
Gas boilers work by heating up hot water, which is either drawn from the mains as well or from a water tank, and then transferring this to your taps and showers or your radiators. They’re one of the most efficient and cost-effective ways to keep your home warm.
Gas boiler replacement cost
The cost of your gas boiler replacement will vary based on a few things. Firstly – you need to decide on the boiler itself, plus which type and size you need. Depending on whether you need a small combi or a big system boiler, you’re looking at anywhere from £500 to £3,000.
Getting it installed is likely to cost between £1,000 and £3,000, with the price depending mostly on what your current boiler setup is. Replacing a combi with a combi, for example, will be cheaper than switching to a completely different type and size of boiler.

Combi gas boilers
Combi gas boilers are the smallest and normally most affordable of the modern boiler solutions. They consist of a single boiler unit which provides hot water on demand, and you don’t need to worry about where to fit a water tank.
System gas boilers
System gas boilers are better suited to a slightly larger home. If you live in a medium house (one with a couple of bathrooms), then you may be better off with a system boiler. As it stores hot water in a tank for later use, it can cope with a higher demand.
Regular gas boilers
Regular gas boilers, which you may know as ‘traditional’ or ‘conventional’ boilers, are the workhorse of the group. Whilst they tend to be found in older homes, where their two water tanks could easily fit, they can provide the most amount of hot water at once – even in very large or busy houses.
