The boiler is the heart of the home. It works hard to keep you and your family warm, all year round. But however well you look after it, there’s only so many hot showers and warm living rooms it can provide. At some point, you’ll need to replace and upgrade your boiler to a newer model. Average lifespan of a boiler
A good quality boiler which is well maintained, and professionally serviced every year, should last you between 10 and 15 years.
To know when it’s time to replace yours, look out for increasing monthly bills which can be a sign of energy inefficiency. If you notice repairs becoming more frequent, parts being harder to come by, or the boiler becoming noisier – it might be time to think about upgrading
Should I always replace my boiler after 15 years?
When your boiler gets to the upper range of its life expectancy, it will also likely be out of its warranty and guarantee period.
Whilst you might get lucky and see your boiler continue running for 20 years or more, you will be running the risk of high repair bills and low reliability. The last thing you want is to rely on an ageing boiler when winter draws in, nor do you want to pay for regular breakdowns or replacements – without the safety of a guarantee.
Boiler technology moves quickly, too. By the time your boiler is 15 years old, there will be new boilers with new features and much higher efficiency. Upgrading will also likely mean lower monthly bills.

Which boiler lasts the longest?
With many types of boilers available (combi, system, regular) and a choice of fuel types (gas, oil, LPG) – choosing the right one for your home is an important decision.
But when it comes to finding the longest lasting, it’s more about the quality of the manufacturer and how well you take care of it. There’s no connection between boiler type and lifespan, nor does the fuel type make a difference.
